Robosonic celebrate the beginning of 2012 with a release on Jackmode, „The Sweetness” (which includes a bassheavy remix by J. Phlip of Dirtybird and Pets Recordings fame), a videomashup to the original track and a mixalbum entitled „Sweet and Nuts“.
The Jackmode release marks a special moment in Robosonic‘s eventful journey, which is now spanning 6 years; the boys haven‘t released any original material since their critically acclaimed debut album „Sturm und Drang“ and vinyl EPs (with album tracks and remixes by the likes of Jesse Rose, Santiago & Bushido, Koletzki & Meindl, Deo & Z-Man, Christopher Just and more) on their own label between 2007 and 2009.
Instead, Robosonic have been drawn towards the dancefloor and performed countless gigs – both at their homebase Berlin and worldwide – making a name for themselves as a seasoned DJ duo which has a lot of fun rocking exciting sets of heavily danceable, norm-defying electronic music in clubs and at numerous festivals morning, day, and night, often taking their crowd on a musical trip of epic proportions.
To commemorate their sucessful year and a return to a more production-focused career, Robosonic present the mixalbum „Sweet and Nuts“. This one hour mix of music contains nothing but new and 100% original Robosonic tracks and remixes (J. Phlip, Antonio Olivieri), some still unsigned and – - for your exclusive preview – - some which are soon to be released.

Go ahead and join the celebration party by grabbing the „Sweet and Nuts“ mixalbum! –> DOWNLOAD

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
/////////////////////////////DEUTSCH/////////////////////////
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Label : Jackmode
Cat-Nr : JACK005
Release Date : 2011-12-13
Info: Robosonic return in full effect with the stunning and beautiful ‘The Sweetness’, after a brief hiatus with regards to original releases the Berlin duo present this unique track to the masses via Jackmode Music.

The Sweetness plays on an inviting Piano line, dancing delicately over vocal hiccups and flirting with intricate percussion. The track evolves and drops into slightly moodier bass territory that goes half time and then back again, the soulful FX swirling and repeating over themselves. The strength of the track relies in all the elements working together in perfect harmony, calling and answering to each other….which is perfectly executed after the final drop.
J. Phlip takes the remix duties head on with a great interpretation, the american DJ and Producer shows her flair for all things bass with a track drenched in low-end loveliness. A tough kick underpins a hypnotic loop that rolls out into a spacious breakdown. The final drop doesnt disappoint, big drums and dark percussion make this new version a surefire dancefloor work out.

The title of their debut album ,Sturm und Drang‘ (translated literally it means „Storm and Stress“) takes its name from the turbulent German literary period of the same name which championed the emphatic struggles of the volatile emotional self. Sturm und Drang captures the current feelings and attitudes of young freethinking musicians Sacha Robotti and Cord Henning Labuhn. Although, while it draws on literary influences, it isn’t an attempt at setting a soundtrack to these famous Germanic literary works.
The album is born out of and inspired by the nocturnal lives and the creative surroundings of the duo.

The framework of the album is a humorous, cynical exposure of bourgeois German culture and language. It can be interpreted as a critical discourse in the constant struggle to describe music through words, while the music follows its own dramaturgy and aesthetics. The design of the cover is a tongue in cheek reference to the famous publisher ‚Reclam‘ and its reknown small yellow books every German pupil had to labour over in high school. In the CD booklet you will find „Interpretationen zu Sturm und Drang“, acting as the „literary“ part of the album project, taking the concept of the successful club vinyl maxis „Yasmin“ (inkl. KOLETZKI & MEINDL und THE COCONUT WIRELESS Remixes) and „Die Verwandlung“ (inkl. JESSE ROSE und CHRISTOPHER JUST Remixes) one step further.

Dancefloor-Dialectics

In the same way that their public do not hail from a homogenous scene, Robotti and Labuhn come from different musical and social backgrounds, but form an intact and energy charged team that manages to find solidarity and consensus in the studio, during performances and on the road. Productions and remixes (not to mention bootlegs) by Robosonic can already be found in thousands of DJ‘s record cases and hard drives long before the release of this debut album.
Parts of the album evolved over a period of 1-2 years but with the nearing move/split of Robosonic (Buenos Aires — Ber- lin), Sturm und Drang is the fruit of an intensive three month production period where previous transatlantic ideas solidified and where not only artistic visions were shared but also a home, money and sustenance.

The Companions

The two multi-instrumentalists, DJs and labelrunners were supported by a host of other musicians who supplied classical and electronic instrumentation.
Saxophone contributions by Sir Speck Wildhorse were chopped up, distorted and twisted and used in the track „Sprach- fehler“ which was originally used in the remix of Le Hammond Inferno (Speech Defects). Vocals on „Die kleine Prinzessin“ are provided by the fantastic jazz singer Joanna Dong from Singapore, accompanied by Jonas Hauer on the Wurlitzer-piano and the Theremin as well as Gergely Mohl on cello.
The otherworldliness of „1984“ is built up using strings and reverberated layers of deepness and flows into „Die uner- trägliche Leichtigkeit des Seins“, a rippling reminiscence of nostalgic moments. Jo Kaa‘s soulful voice in the theatrically poppy „Kabale und Liebe“ was reworked a little with the aid of modern techno- logy. The lyrically plaintive nature of his words is betrayed by the surprising end in which a female voice pleads for something more down-to-earth. A Warcraft machinima music video, produced by Pusteblume and Kim Köster, adds to the poppy weirdness of the song. Robosonic is surrounded by an international creative network that communicates an artistic vision through artwork, painting, design and video.

The process

Field recordings from daily life above and below ground in Berlin and experimental sound design are craftily assembled with quotes and musical open-mindedness to form a determined and original style. Tools included resoldered video games and guitars dragged through analog synthesizers.

„Kaputt in Hollywood“ (named after a book by Charles Bukowski) shows the humorous and undogmatic side of Robosonic and makes unashamed references to their activities in the mash-up and bootleg world.
„Yasmin“, a bleepy feel-good hymn, is the first single of the album, released on vinyl on their own label Diskomafia / Undercoverart. „Traumnovelle“ uncovers the suffering of unrequited love, capturing it in a twisted groove.
Influences from hip-hop culture such as scratching techniques are strikingly obvious in „Die Blechtrommel“. Technoid minimalism and life in the metropolis characterise „Die Kinder vom Kotti“, a trip into the hearts of junkies and joggers and also an ode to Berlin‘s Kreuzberg Zentrum. With the similarly subtle album closer „Die Verwandlung“ the listener is tempted into a contemplative after-hours mindstate assisted by the soundscapes of Jo Bünemann…
Despite widely diverging influences and their daring iconoclastic style, „Sturm und Drang“ has one main line: Freedom, initiative and emotion in a driving 4/4 beat.

some press feedback:

TAZ

BLOND, Nico Cramer, Deutschland

Hoffentlich viel. Raus kommt nämlich immer viel Gutes.“

M8 Magazine, UK (album of the month):

„Really interesting stuff this from the Berlin/Buenos Aires duo, with each of the 12 tracks referencing a great work of literature. Sounds like a chin stroker´s paradise but you’ll find a cracking collection of deep, splintering techno that moves through phases (dub, minimal, full-on banging) at will. There’s so much going on in every track; one minute it’s the haunting string atmospherics of ‚1984’, the next it’s the magnetic electro chords an VonStroke-style bleeps and tweets of ‚Yasmin’ and ‚Die Blechtrommel’. Pick out individual thumpers for your dancefloor requirements if you must, but this really does work best taken in one, long sweep of electronic goodness as there are enough peaks, drops and spaced out detours to satisfy the most demanding, impatient listerner. This is definitely the thinking man’s sound of the underground. Highly recommended.“

365MAG, Harry Avers, USA:

“Rush out and buy this record. You will not be disappointed. I hope you have the same experience as I did. Brilliance! Pure brilliance.“

Here comes the second official 12” of ROBOSONIC in anticipation to their debut album “Sturm und Drang” (to be released in September 2007)! After numerous remix-productions which will be released on different labels within the next months, the last album track “Die Verwandlung” was chosen to be the follow-up to the great success of “Yasmin” (incl. Koletzki & Meindl and Coconut Wireless Remixes) released early 2007.

The young independent DJ-Team and producer duo ROBOSONIC is made up of Sacha Robotti living in Berlin and Cord Henning Labuhn (also known for HipHop production under the name “Schall”) meanwhile living in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires.
So far they have been tearing apart clubs, illegal raves, parades and festivals all over the world, playing an innovative wild mix of electronic music they refer to as “Dance Entertainment for Junkies and Joggers”.

“Die Verwandlug” (German for “The Metamorphosis”.. see Kafka) is a subtle morphing track on the deep edge of minimalism. Its strange atmoshere is crafted by weird sound textures and a patient, determined arrangement with surprises.

“Der Ritt” is a techhouse horse riding adventure about the happy lonely but desperately love-seeking gauchos ROBOSONIC literally taking place in the wide and beautiful Pampa of Berlin-Kreuzberg. It takes quite a journey to reach the climax of melodic melancholy and true skool kitsch sung to you by ugly nightowls hiding behind big white piles of snow.

JESSE ROSE [Get Physical/ Dubsided], master of fidget house remixes, delivers what he is known for: his very own vision of sound. Bleepy, bouncy, surprising house or something hard to define? Jesse metamorphoses “Die Verwandlung” from scratch, creating a free interpretation.
The remix by CHRISTOPHER JUST [International DJ Gigolo/ Kitsuné], a “harder” and more straightforward interpretation bathing in acid, is destined to fit in record cases of techno DJs.

This maxisingle contains their two intelligent club tracks “Yasmin” and “Die Kinder vom Kotti”. Both tracks provide an insight into what we can expect from the album: fresh, beautiful, edgy, deep, unusual, groovy, minimal and maximally arranged music with intellect and emotion in a dancefloor nutshell.

OLIVER KOLETZKI [Cocoon/Stil vor Talent] is joined by FLORIAN MEINDL [Stil Vor Talent/Resopal/Trapez] for their remix of “Yasmin” – the result of their efforts is a great functional peaktime club smasher.
